Characteristics
- Length : The size of a male tiger can be range upto 3m (10 ft.) and female to 2.7m (9 ft.).
- Height : 90-110 cm (At Shoulder)
- Weight : Male : 220 Kg. and Female : 140 Kg.
- The heaviest Bengal Tiger ever reported was 389.5 Kg
- Bengal Tigers have the longest canine teeth of any living felid measuring approximately 4 inches (100 mm) in larger individual. A canine tooth of tiger is larger and longer than that of a similar sized lion.
- Bengal tigers also have large, retractable claws that allow them to climb and kill prey.
- Their Stripes help them camouflage as they stalk their prey.
- Bengal Tiger has excellent vision and good hearing.
Population
- Mapped somewhere along the north eastern boarder of Madhya Pradesh amidst Satpura and Vindhya ranges, Bandhavgarh National Park is a home to over a 100 Bengal Tigers in the country.

Government steps to protect tigers in India
Legal Steps
- Amendment of Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 in 2006 to provide enabling provisions for constituting the National Tiger Conservation Authority under section 38 IV B and the tiger and other endangered species crime control bureau under section 38 IV C.
- Comprehensive guidelines under section 380 1(c) of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 issued for Project Tiger and Tourism in Tiger Reserves on 15th October, 2012.
International Cooperation
- India has a bilateral understanding with Nepal on controlling trans-boundary illegal in Wildlife and Conservation, apart from a protocol on tiger conservation with China.
- A protocol has been signed in September, 2011 with Bangladesh foe a conservation of the Royal Bengal Tiger of the Sunder ban.
- A sub-group of tiger and leopard conservation has been constituted for cooperation with the Russian Federation
