In my previous post "The Heaven Of Wild - Western Ghats- Part-1", I mention about basic information of Western Ghats. Its Biology, Wildlife and "How Western Ghats conserve and protect some endangered species and environment"

In this post we see different natural places in Western Ghats and the way to reach that places.


1. Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary 

  • Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area and a project tiger, tiger reserve located 38 km (24 mi). Northwest of Chikkamagaluru town in Karnataka State, India.

  • The Sanctuary gets its name from the Bhadra river, which flows through reserve. Way to reach this sanctuary : there are three routes to reach "Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary"  from Bangalore.
  1. The shortest rout includes driving through NH 48.
  2. An alternate route goes via NH 4.
  3. The third route which takes the most number of hours includes travelling via NH4 and SH 65.




  • Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary houses more than 250 species of bird life, reptiles like crocodiles and various kind of snakes can also be found here.




  • The Sanctuary is also home to exotic butterflies, which include Yam Fly, Baronet, Crimson rose, tailed jay, Great orange tip, Bamboo tree down and blue pansy.
  • Best Season : September - May
  • Park Timing : 6-10 am, 3-6 pm 
  • Park Entry Fee : Rs. 25; Parking Fee : Rs. 30
  • Fee for Mini Bus : Rs. 600 and for Forest jeep Rs. 300 

2. Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve




  • The Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve is an International Biosphere Reserve in the Western Ghats and Nilgiri Hills ranges of south India.


  • It includes the Mudumalai, Mukurthi, Nagarhole, and Bandipur national parks, as well as the Wayanad and Sathyamangalam wildlife sanctuaries.


  • Location of the reserve: The reserve encompasses 5,520 km2 in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala. It forms an almost complete ring around the Nilgiri Plateau.


  • A major part of the Nilgiri Biosphere in reserved under the national projects of Project Tiger and Project Elephant. Hence it is an important habitat for two of the most important species of fauna in India.
  • Way to reach Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve:-
  1. By Bus- Private as well as state buses is available at Tamil Nadu
  2. By Train- The Nilgiri Express train runs from Chennai to Mettupalayam is available.
  3. By Air- Coimbatore Airport is the closest Airport located 70 km from the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.
  4. By Road- Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve is well connected via road network to nearby major cities.


3. Anamudi Peak

  • Anamudi, pride of the state of Kerala, is 2695 metres high mountain standing tall in the Eravikulam National Park.
  • Along with the Eravikulam National Park, Anamudi is a home to a number of Asian Elephants, Nilgiri Tahrs, and the Gaurs (See my all old posts related to these animals).

  • It is the paradise in the wild and is covered with lush evergreen forests and is inhabited by endemic flora and fauna.
  • You can take a trek to the top of the mountain, but to do that you have to take permission from the authorities of Eravikulam National Park.
  • Outside the Himalayan mountain ranges, it is the highest point in India.
