Let's talk about "Chiru - The Tibetian Lynx"



Introduction

  • The Tibetian Lynx is also known as "Chiru" in Ladakhi Language.
  • Himalayan Lynx is the sub species of Eurasian Lynx.
Physical Characteristics
  • They have long, prominent black ear tufts, short black tripped tails.
  • The coat is varied in grey, rusty or yellow fur. There are three main coat patterns: spotted, striped and solid.
  • They have round face and triangle ears.
  • The paws are large and fur covered.

  • Their length is about 70-130 cm.Males are usually larger and heavier than females. 
  • Their weight is about 18-26 kg. 
Where you can see Lynx in Ladakh
  • In Ladakh you can view the Tibetan Lynx in Hunder, Panamik and Gya-Miru region of Leh.


Population in Ladakh
  • There are almost 50 to 70 species of Lynx in Ladakh region.
Habitat
  • Tibetan Lynx lives at a high elevation of about 4250 m to 4575 m. The Tibetan Lynx Ladakh is an animal that climbs excellently. The Lynx is very mysterious and intangible. Lynx Isabellionus   chases marmots, hare, Bharal, sheep and goat
